Lisbon Tram 28 limited route and Jeronimos Monastery info

Just a heads up -- I just got back from Lisbon and Tram 28 is running only part of its route. To quote from the Carris website: "From July 29, 2024, Tram 28E will only run between Martim Moniz and Praça Luís de Camões. The route between Camões and Campo de Ourique (Prazeres) is temporarily suspended." https://www.carris.pt/en/travel/alteracoes-de-servico/os-do-179-2024-28e-temporary-change-of-service/

Also there seems to be semi-permament sign outside the ticket booth for the cloister of the Jeronimos Monastery (which is in the park across the street) that says that the wait is 2 hours. We asked the people working the booth if that was accurate, and they said it might even be 3 hours. Fortunately, I bought a ticket anyway. The wait was about 40 minutes (this was at around 11am on a weekday). So don't believe everything your read (or hear). Also if you buy timed tickets in advance, know that the times are meaningless. Everyone waits on the same line for the cloister (which is separate and longer than the line to see the free church). Also be aware that they are doing rehab in the church, so you won't get much of a view of the tombs.

Hope this helps!

Beware of timed entry at St. Jerome Monastery, they were meaningless for us on Oct 23! We waited 1.5-hours from 11.00am to 12:30pm despite having tickets for 11:30.

I had hoped that Jeronimos had refined its process, sounds like they have not. We purchased 9am timed tickets, and we were instructed to join everyone else in line.We waited well over an hour to get in. We then had to wait at least 45 minutes to get into the church.

Crowds are pretty unpredictable at Jeronimos. I asked if mid day was better and was told sometimes, I asked if late afternoon was better and was told sometimes. After our morning visit to Jeronimos we happened to walk past at 3pm. The lines were worse.

We just returned October 7. Because of these posts we booked a 2 hour tour for €30 pp plus entrance fee. The tour guides form a separate line and go in first. We had a 9:30 time and was in at that time.
We booked jeronimostours.com. We were 6 people on the tour.

I have found that the best thing to do for popular sites, like Jeronimos Monastery, is get the first timed entry slot and line up early. I was there in March. It opened at 9:30 and I was first in line at 8:55. I was able to enjoy it without the crowds.

I had the Lisbon Card and did not need a ticket to enter.

We were just in Lisbon. We went in the late afternoon and did not wait more than 10 minutes for either the church or the monastery. But we are talking about late October so Carrie’s advice may be better for prime tourist times.

Be aware that church closes from 12 to 2. Line gets very long while closed. We went about 3.

We had tickets for 4:30 for monastery. We got right in line after church and they let us in ahead of our scheduled time. There was almost no line at that time. As others have said, the time of the ticket does not seem to matter.
