Lisbon to Porto by train

I have read that for the best views I should sit on the left hand side of the train going to Porto. Is that true, and if so, is it the left when you are facing the front of the train or is it from the front looking back on the rest of the train that is the left?! Silly question but....!

Last month we rode the opposite direction out of Porto. As regards a view of Porto, the best side was the right side. Thus, for your direction it would indeed be the left side, the left side when you are facing the front of the train. Tony Galvez also recommends the left side when traveling by train into Porto in his YouTube video (3:40).

Inside the train look to the front ( the first car) it will determine the left and right.

More important for us was the location of the Sun ( can't see anything if you're blinded by the sun ) and the seat direction - half the seats face forwards, the other half faces backwards.

Now the train/section I like the best is the suburban train from Campanhã to São Bento station for when you transfer from the high speed train to the one that takes you into town. Now that view is fabulous from the left side going over the bridge. You will go around a bend, then out over the water with great views. Wonderful way to arrive in Porto, exiting out of the São Bento station with the amazing tile work.

I can't thank you enough. I had no idea about needing to change trains to be in the center. I feel like I dodged a bullet! Thank you for the great Youtube and the great advice. So we will take the train from Santa Apolonia (likely the high speed) and get off at Oporto Compana for the local to Sao Bento. And I now feel like the left side is really the left side!

Thank you!
