Lisbon to Lagos to Seville travel recommendation

We would like to leave Lisbon, drive to Lagos for a night, then drive to Seville. Travelling in late november. I can't find any reasonable car rentals online. I suspect it has to do with dropping off in Spain vs. Portugal. It looks like there is an airport in Faro that I can return the car, but still need to figure out how to get to Seville that same day. Any suggestions?

Yes, dropping the car off in Spain adds enormous drop off charges!

There are two bus lines that go from Lagos to Sevilla. If you google ‘bus Lagos to Sevilla’, you will find the companies, times and prices.

Lagos is out of the way just for a one night stay. It’s 4 hours using toll roads and 6 hours without. Late November may well be wet, so if you are heading here for the caves, you maybe out of luck.

Are you going to have a car anyway or are you just hiring it for this trip?

Tavira would be a more obvious overnight location and has far more charm than Lagos. Tavira has more buses to Seville or is much closer to Faro if you have to head back there.

We took the bus from Tavira to Sevilla. It is pretty much the only option unless you want to pay an extraordinary amount for a rental car. Agree with Jennifer that off-season Algarve isn't really the best idea.

Thank you for all the helpful insight. I found a bus from Lagos to Seville (4.25 hours). Since we really want to see the historical sites at Sagres and Lagos, I decided to rent a car for one day (autoeuro.eu) from Lisbon to Lagos, and then take a bus(omnio.com) from Lagos to Seville. About a $100 drop-off fee for not bringing the car back to where rented, so not exactly cost-effective. And definitely not beach weather, but we hope to see and get a feel for the Algarve region.

“See the historical sites in Sagres and Lagos”. Oh dear, I hope you won’t be disappointed. There are far more interesting places that you could visit for historical sites in Portugal.

Aljezur and Silves Castles in the Algarve are more interesting than Sagres and Lagos IMO.

The Algarve is all about the beaches and golf and is the most (over)developed region in the country.
