Lisbon to Caiscais

Hi travelers,
Our family of 6 with kids 8-13yrs are traveling from San Francisco to Madrid, then grabbing a connector flight to Lisbon in the same day. My question is, should we try and take a train directly to Caiscais or should we stay a night in Lisbon & grab a train there the next day? Not sure if it’s too much to try and make our Caiscais destination in one travel day?

Thanks!

Since moving here, I make the trip from Oklahoma to Cascais in one day (actually it’s overnight from the States), but it’s grueling. But, I always take a taxi from the airport to Cascais when coming back from the States.
Lisbontaxi.com will give you a price from the airport - around €40 for two but likely more for your group. And, paying for six people on the Aerobus from the airport to Cais do Sodré then the train out here, the public transport would not be much cheaper.

I agree with the earlier post, if you decide to go from the Lisbon airport to Cascais after flying into from the US west coast, take a taxi. Doing this on public transportation will add several hours of confusion and stress. Be sure to negotiate the taxi fare before you get in.
As you may know, there are lots of attractions for kids in Cascais.

You could also contact a company called Moor Viagens online for a quotation for your trip from the airport to Cascais. I concur that private van is the way to go.

I've used them on my last 3 trips to Portugal, most recently February of this year. They have vans large enough to take everyone including luggage, nice drivers who for the most part speak English and who will be waiting for you with a sign.

We just returned from Lisbon last week and befriended a wonderful Uber driver who drove us from the airport to our downtown hotel. Two days later we hired him to spend the day with us driving up the coast through Cascais and over to Sintra (Eight hours for 260 euro in a Mercedes wagon. Cascais is a short ride (less than 45 minutes) from Lisbon and one that could easily be done directly from the airport. His car would be too small for six, but you might try contacting him to see if he can arrange transfer for you. His name is Rui (pronounced Rooey) Pragana at Country Code 351, 933-642-072 or email at forcadopragana@gmail.com. I would highly recommend him. He is prompt, courteous and very helpful.
