Lisbon Stay Inquiries

Thinking of doing about a week-long stay in Lisbon. Seeing the city sights and using the train for day trips.

Our likely month of travel is April, and hotels seem to be all over the place price-wise. Can someone suggest a comfortable, clean option - kitchenette or fridge/coffee service is preferred?

Any other tips on locations, or favorite places to see/enjoy greatly appreciated!

Hi Alex,

We were just in Lisbon and stayed at Chiado Arty Flats. It is on the edge of the Chiado and Barrio Alto neighborhoods about a five minute walk from the Rossi train station, 28 Tram, and a 10 minute walk to the Baixa-Chiado Metro (with a short-cut escalator) to Baixa. This is an ideal location in a really cool neighborhood.

Chiado Arty Flats I as an apartment/hotel which means we had a kitchenette, daily breakfast service, and spacious accommodations. Our room had an outdoor garden area with a table and lounge chairs. The service was awesome, Tomas and Carina gave us their What’s App number not only for emergencies, but also to answer questions while we were touring from where to eat to how to get back to the hotel. The breakfast was huge with scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit, pastries, ham, and cheese. Because we had a refrigerator, we could save some breakfast later for snacks.

I really regretted having to leave this apart/hotel. The location, hosts, and facilities were amazing.

I just returned from a stay in Lisbon and stayed by the Oriente train/bus/metro station. It is very well connected and close to the airport. Not ideal if you want to stay in the historic core, but for me it was a great location and I would stay there again. There is a section in the RS guidebook about this location.

If you avoid the week after Easter, the prices will go down significantly. Portugal gets an influx of tourists the week before and after Easter so they raise prices. Come from the tenth of the month and prices will be lower and there will be fewer people.

For Lisbon;

We've stayed here numerous times.

Emporium Lisbon Suites - Rua dos Bacalhoeiros 18, Santa Maria Maior, Lisbon,

Located in Baixa on the river front. Very central. Kitchenette, large rooms. Great little boutique hotel.

Quick question:

Outside of AirBnBs, VRBO, and other independent type of places turned “hotel”, is it common for typical hotels in Lisbon (or even much of Europe?) to have room fridges and microwaves? And maybe I should define typical as more on the budget to low-mid range. I think it’s comfortable to say in the US, fridge and microwave is quite common and almost standard.

In 2019, I stayed at the Lisbon Calling Suites on Rua da Fe on a quiet (but uphill) street near the Avenida metro stop. The price was very reasonable for Lisbon at the time I booked. There are about 7 rooms, quite large (at least mine was) with ensuite bath. There is also a fully equipped shared kitchen available for guests to use. This is run by the same operation but NOT to be confused with the Lisbon Calling hostel on Rua Sao Paolo.

No, definitely not common, even in the higher-end hotels. In my recent trips to Europe, I have never seen a microwave. A few of my rooms did have a minifridge.
