Lisbon: October. 6 days. Hotels? Other places to visit nearby?
Hi,
We so appreciate the RS community responses since Europe is a new travel destination for us on our own.
Has anyone stayed at the hotels listed in the RS book? Category/Price: RS$$$ euros 175.
Other than those listed, what other hotels do you suggest ( and have stayed in) that are centrally located.
And do you recommend any of the European chain hotels?
My friend suggested using oyster.com.
We would like to make reservations this week.
Also...are 4 days touring the city of Lisbon enough?
Other than Sintra, can you suggest other places nearby to visit: day trip or overnight?
Thanks,
Fritz
My last visit to Lisbon, I stayed at Brown's Boutique Hotel. Reasonably priced, large comfortable room (even had a kitchenette), convenient to restaurants, central location, near Metro, busses and trams.
4 days are good for a visit to explore Lisbon. Take Rick’s 3 walking tours. Visit Belem by tram or cab and Evora makes a great day train trip (or overnight). One “don’t miss” in Lisbon is the Gulbenkian Museum.
Sintra
Cascais
Evora
are all day trip options.
We had a very enjoyable stay at Casa Amora Guesthouse. Juan and his staff ensure a memorable vacation in Lisbon.
We need recommendations if a trip to see Porto is worthwhile. This would take 2 days from our time in the Lisbon area. Travel back to Lisbon to go to airport back home. Any comments most welcome as to where to stay too.
It takes a half day to travel between Lisbon and Porto, plus the time it takes to check into and out of hotels. With only 6 days, why spend one of them moving from place to place? You don't mention your interests, so it is hard to give specific advice. If you want to get into the local culture, 6 days is just a start. If you just want to "see" famous sites, 2 days in Lisbon is enough to get photos to bring home. If you want day trips, Cascais is a good choice.
Stay in an AirBnB the Bairro Alto.
We stayed in 2 different ones for a total of 10 days.
Perfect location.
$100/night.
Lisbon. Mid October. 4 nights.
Checked the places to stay above and not available for when we’re planning to go.
Requesting other hotels in central location of Lisbon.
Thanks.
Sandy
We really enjoyed the day we spent in Setubal. It had a very working class feel, and is situated right along the water. We did a catamaran dolphin tour (there are dolphins that live right on the mouth of the Sado estuary). https://vertigemazul.com/en/index.php#services. There were a bunch of really excellent seafood restaurants along the harbor, and we enjoyed strolling around the water.
We actually stayed a few nights in Lisbon and a few nights in Palmela, not far from Setubal or Lisbon. There is a beautiful hotel in Palmela, consisting renovated cloisters and a castle at the very top of a hill overlooking nearly everything. https://www.pousadas.pt/en/hotel/pousada-palmela?utm_source=google-my-business&utm_medium=organicsearch&utm_campaign=pousada-palmela. The included breakfast there was awesome. Palmela itself was a fantastic small town, with some really good restaurants, a cool wine bar/institute, and a nice plaza to walk around. I would go back to Palmela and Setubal in a heartbeat.
Thanks to all for your helpful tour suggestions.
Sandy.
