Lisbon lodging for solo female traveler

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for a hotel or b&b in Lisbon in a quiet and safe (relatively speaking; I realize it's a city) neighborhood, as I am a female traveling solo. Something with character or charm would be a bonus; however, I do not need a 5 star experience but my hostel and bathroom sharing days are behind me. Many thanks!

Budget? I recently stayed in Lisbon at the Residencial Geres, kind of a run-down (but clean) place close to Rossio Square in Baixa, so a fantastic location. I think Lisbon has gotten more pricey as tourism has boomed - it seemed like a good value compared with neighboring properties or hotels. The Residencial Geres is still recommended by Rick Steves, I think. I booked it on Booking.com because it was about to sell out, but you might get a discount mentioning Rick Steves's book and booking directly with them.

The area around the hotel felt safe enough to me, but I am used to cities. I think some people might find it a bit "seedy," but I think that depends on your comfort level with urban areas.

Maybe you'd do better on AirBnB but personally I haven't used them.
