Lisbon Layover

My flight to Italy just changed such that we now have a 7 hour layover in Lisbon from 6AM-2PM. expecting we could get out of the airport around 7, thinking about spending the hours of 7AM-noon in the city. Any recommendations for how to spend this time?

You might want to research the different neighborhoods (Bairro) in the city to see what appeals most to you.

Praça dó Commercio and the Baixa area by the river is an option and it’s flat.

Alfama is very hilly but is the oldest part of the city since it was not destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and fire. It has some beautiful views and quaint winding streets.

Chiado is also hilly but has likely the best shopping and restaurants.

There are others but these would be the bit three. FYI - you may not get out of the airport within an hour. Lines at passport control have been very long at times.

We spent 2 hours in line at passport control at the Lisbon Airport last August. I've been reading on other forums that other people have had the same problem. I suggest you play it by ear and see how long it takes you to get through passport control.
