Lisbon, Evora, Lagos suggestions

Hi again,

I rethought my trip since my last post. I will have ten full days in Portugal. I plan to stay in Lisbon, Evora and Lagos (or another Algarve town if there's a better suggestion). I am doing a day trip to Sintra. I hope to hike as well if anyone has any suggestions along these locations. I don't know if there's a better sequence to visiting these cities where there appears to be a few holidays while I am there (Freedom day and labour day?).

Thank you!!

How many nights in total? Do you fly in and out of Lisbon? What time is departure?

If it were me:

  1. Stay 5-6 nights in Lisbon; day trips to Sintra, Belem, possibly Cascais.

  2. Rent a car through zestcarrental.com. Rentauto has a special on a Fiat Panda starting at approximately €81-€101 for four to five days. Pick up and return at Lisbon Airport. Read the details for other charges like a toll transponder.

  3. Drive to Evora and stay 0 to 1 night. We only stopped in Evora for a day before continuing on to Lagos. However, it is a nice enough town that you may want to stay a night.

  4. Drive on to Lagos and stay 4 nights. Use Lagos as your base. And keep your car to explore the Algarve. Lots to do and see.

  5. Drive back to Lisbon Airport and fly out.

There are a lot of hiking possibilities in the Sintra hills, including hikes along the coast and on the dunes at guincho beach - between Cascais and Sintra.

In Evora, a highlight is Ebora Megalithica, archeologists that do a tour of the megalith sites outside of town. You can drive to them on your own, but it’s much better to do a tour.

In Lagos - my choice for the Algarve - there are lots of hikes along the coast outside of town. Don’t miss Ponte de Piadade.

I enjoyed Evora and think you can enjoy at least 2 nights. We had planned for two nights and actually extended our time to 3. There are some nice towns to daytrip to from there including Villa Vicosa.
