Has anyone used a contactless credit card to pay when boarding a bus or tram in Lisbon? I know the Metro train has this availability, but I can't find anything confirming that this is possible on bus and tram transport as well. Thank you.
no contactless on the bus or tram
They all use zapping cards. The real name was Via Viagem in the past but may have changed to Navagante. You purchase them at any train or metro station. Staff will know what you mean if you ask for via viagem or zapping. They cost €.50 and you add money to the card. Then each time you ride any public transport, including the ferry, the amount of the ride is deducted from what you have loaded on the card. It’s still contactless but you can’t just use your credit card.
Bus 500 took a contactless credit card in early April 2024.
