Hello,
after a lot of research on areas of Lisbon I booked an apartment near Martim Moniz & Rossio stations. Most of the recent reviews I found of the area were positive, but one mentioned they did not feel safe at night, any current feedback? No nightlife for me, middle aged couple, first trip there...

Montim Moniz has become more trendy recently with lots of hotels in the area. The end of tram 28 is in Montim Moniz, making it very busy at times. Rossio is very central with lots of tourists. Lisbon in general is safe with your biggest worry being pickpockets. If you like the apartment, I wouldn't be concerned about safety - especially if you aren't out in the middle of the night.

I can add a second that you will be fine. Lisbon is a great city, day and night. Your area of Martim Moniz is very busy and a nice central location. Enjoy!

Martim Moniz, as others have said is central below two hills! Check google maps, you may not want an apartment up the stairs. There are ways around the hills after a few misses.
