Lisbon and daytrips

We will be traveling to Portugal and Spain in May. Into Lisbon, flight to southern Spain
and flight out of Madrid. Trains and Planes, decided to skip a car. We intend to schedule 4 days in Lisbon and Sintra. First day to get over jetlag and acclimate, daytrip to Sintra via train, or even bus. A couple of questions:

Any other towns/sites around Lisbon that would be a good day trip (train/bus), or that might justify a stayover to complete our Portugal leg, before we fly to Sevilla?

And of course - good accommodation recommendation(s) for Lisbon (city center/most walkable). We kind of prefer boutique type places and B&B's with a good breakfast.

Cascais, Portugal could be a good day trip or stayover near Lisbon. We are planning to go there this April. It seems like it is easy to get to by public transportation from Lisbon, and it looks like a lovely spot by the water.

I wish I would have had time for a 2nd day in Sintra, one day wasn't quite enough.

Be careful not to short-change Lisbon. It's a wonderful city with so many interesting sights in addition to wandering around and exploring the various neighborhoods, especially the Alfama. How many nights do you actually have in Lisbon? Do you have 4 full days for Lisbon/Sintra? We spent 5 nights in Lisbon, so 4 full days, and the only daytrip we did was to Sintra. I would not have wanted an extra day trip. But your interests may vary from ours.
