Lisbon Airport Transport

Hello Everyone
We are stopping in Lisbon for one day. I was wondering if you can let me know what is the best way to get from the airport to our hote and vice versa ? In regard to Cost/benefit.
Thank you all in advance

Please share the location of your hotel so we can better assist you.

The Metro is very easy, but if you want convenience, then you may want to take a taxi.

I took the metro from hotel to airport. but it was tiring. If I had t do it over, I might consder an uber or taxi or ride service. However transit is very doable dependng. How much luggage? What about mobility issues? How many persons

Thank you both. We are 2 people, 2 suitcases and my wife's knee is not in greatest shape!

Uber, or Bolt is better, is really the way to go, cheap, little chance you will be scammed, but you would need a phone with data. Less than 15 euro.

Taxis vary, they are a bit more, seen a number of stories of people paying way more than needed.

Metro is good, but really depends where your hotel is.

The airport is not far from the city center so a taxi shouldn’t be too expensive.

We paid €20 from our hotel to the airport but that was in June 2019.
I’m sure it will be more than that now, but it’s a nice treat to be driven door to door.

Be careful, Lisbon is very hilly and with slippery cobblestone sidewalks.

I used Uber when I arrived in Lisbon. I could have taken the metro, but it was an all uphill walk to my Air BnB. Uber/Bolt is very easy to use. Follow the signs to the rideshare pickup location, which is in the parking garage. It's very well signed - you can't miss it.

I read multiple accounts of taxis overcharging people from the Lisbon airport. One tip I read a couple of times was to go up to Arrivals and catch a cab there - shorter lines, less likely to be scammed. I didn't take a taxi, so I can't confirm.

The metro is very easy to use, but you should look up what's involved in getting to your accommodations. Google Maps can tell you. Put the airport as your starting point, your hotel as your destination, and choose public transport. The directions will show/tell you how far you have to walk once you get off the Metro.

LT,
We have used taxis around town and never had a problem but have heard that pickup at the airport is another story.
Now that the Uber pickup spot has been better organized, that is the way to go. I downloaded the Bolt app but never used it.
I asked our Uber driver about it and he said he preferred the Uber app

I was there last month and used Bolt to get to my hotel. Bolt is cheaper than Uber and also takes less commission.

We just returned from Lisbon on Monday through the airport--we found the Metro was still the easiest way to travel into town, get a Viagem card on the way out of the airport and look at the metro map. Uber and ride share are not allowed in the usual pick up/drop off areas, so can be difficult to manage--our Uber had to go into the parking garage to drop us off. I have heard from other comments here that taxis in Lisbon can be risky and dishonest, so be careful.

Bolt/Uber has designated pickup spot in Lisbon airport arrival area with directions well sign posted, much better situation than many airports both inside and outside USA.

Viagem hasn't existed in Lisbon for quite some time now

The card it replaced is called Navigante Occasional. It can load 24 hour day pass or can be used like London Oyster style stored value card.

If you are taking 4 or more trips, then 24 hour card might be better value especially if you are taking many tram rides or funicular rides.

...And like London and many other places, you can also just tap in and out using your contactless credit card or phone, saves having to get a card and load it with some amount, avoiding "leftovers"

Has this been an available option for very long? I was in Portugal most recently in March. I still had money on my Navegante card from a previous trip, so used that, but I had no idea you could do tap pay from your phone in Lisbon. That would definitely save time and I wouldn't have to remember to fill my card when it ran low.

It has been a while, I used tap for a few trips in April, worked well; just so much easier than worrying about tickets or figuring out a pass.

@KRS, your doubts are not out of place

While @Paul is partially correct (to best of my knowledge) about contactless card system is in place.
It does NOT cover all modes if transportation.

I saw many ill-informed folks struggling at funiculars and Trams.

Hopefully, this would change soon
(Please correct and update this post, if process has now already been implemented in Trams and Funiculars and San Justa elevator)

We were in Lisbon last week. We took a taxi to our hotel from the airport and an Uber to the airport from our hotel. Both are easily available and reasonably priced. The airport is about 20 minutes from the city center.
