I need advice on how to get from Lisbon airport to Salema in the Algarve region. We will have flown over night in economy and would greatly prefer not to drive. Does anyone know of car service?
We start the RS Portugal tour a few days after our arrival. This will be our 19th tour.
Thank you.
Either the train or bus would be pretty easy. A private driver would be several hundred euros. The train might be a bit more complicated, so I would check out the bus first. FlixBus is good. The long distance buses in Portugal are quite nice. Either the bus or train would leave from Oriente train station, which is close to the airport.
If you want to pay for a private driver, there are likely many options. I usually use trip advisor for these type searches and have always been pleased.
I just did this route 4 days ago by train. Trains are great and easy. You can take the Comboios de Portugal train high spread Alfa pendular or the intercidades (slightly slower and cheaper) at the Lisbon oriente station to Faro and rent a car locally if you wish. I love trains so I try to take them everywhere. It’s about 3.5 hours from Lisboa to Faro by train w/ the intercity train. There are also regional trains connecting various Algarve cities/villages. Book the tickets online. I walked to many of my local Algarve hotels from the rail station (10-15 minutes walk).
Cars can be rented locally at Faro or other cities. You will need a car or a taxi if you wish to go to Sagres. Taxis can be reserved for local sightseeing at most places.
I am still in Algarve and the only place i felt I needed a car for Algarve was for Sagres for my itinerary but your mileage may vary 😀
