Sept 9-27: Lisbon(5), ???(3), Coimbra(4), Porto (6)...

HA! You know what I'm about to ask, right?

After watching RS's PBS special on Portugal, I thought Nazare was the place for me to stop and relax for a few days before continuing on to Coimbra and Porto.

But, reading some forum comments, it seems as if Nazare has lost much of its charm. I'm not attracted to tourist environs. Authentic is more my style. But please don't ask me to eat the barnacles. They look disgusting LOL

So, what beautiful quaint little town would you stop at? And if you still say Nazare, so be it :o}

Note: I will not have a car, so the town wIll need to be on a bus or train route.

Obrigada!

We’re headed to Portugal in October. After much reading and you-tubing we decided on Tomar. We will have a car so we will take some short day trips.

We spent two nights in Nazaré last September and enjoyed our stay. The lower town is a stereotypical beach town and everything that comes with one. The upper town still maintains some charm. If you want to avoid crowds it’s not the place to go. I wouldn’t want to spend more than a couple nights there.

We thoroughly enjoyed Tomar and spent 4 nights there. For day trips we went to Almourol castle one day and Fátima and Batalha monastery on another day. In town, we walked up to the castle and Convent of Christ as well as the Church Santa Maria do Olival and around town in general.

We did have a rental car.
