Lisbon 3 full days

Hello,
I have three full days (not including arrival day which I arrive at 1:45 Pm) in Lisbon (and not including departure day). We will be arriving from spending a week in Croatia, so no jet lag, and coming off a trip where we spent a lot of time on islands/at beaches.

I definitely want to see Sintra. Can someone help me with a prioritized itinerary? We do not like museums, are a 30 year old couple traveling with our best friend couple! Definitely interested in food, culture, wine, hiking/view points, etc. thank you!

You'll definitely get your exercise in hilly Lisbon. There are numerous viewpoints down once you get up to them. I suggest an orientation walking tour the first day (maybe even the first afternoon if you are arriving jet lagged and want to stay awake - walking helps me do that!). I took a free walking tour (you tip at the end if it was good) that lasted about three hours - very worthwhile.

You could hike at Sintra if you want to. Most people arrive in the town by train and take a bus or taxi up the hill to the Pena Palace and the Moorish castle ruins. But you can hike up and/or down instead if you want your exercise. However, you would use up some of your time - and it can take a lot of time to get between places and still fit in everything you want to see in a single day in Sintra. (Hint: buy tickets online ahead of time for the Pena Palace in Sintra or expect to wait in very long lines once you get there!)

Many others would day trip out to Belem and/or Cascais on the coast (on the same train line). Most people consider the monastery at Belem a "must see" but I skipped it because, like you, I'm not really a museum person. I did go out there to see the Monument to the Discoveries out on the river, though, before continuing on the train out to Cascais, a touristy but lovely beach resort town.

Thank you so much for the advice :) I updated my post too to say I am coming from Croatia so we should not be jet lagged.

I agree with the poster about seeing St. George's castle. The views are beautiful, the peacocks are fun, and we found the castle to be very interesting. Then we spent the rest of the day following Rick's walking tour through the Alfama. This was our favorite day in Lisbon! Some people say the Alfama is touristy, but that's only true near the castle. Once you get further away from the castle and deeper inside the Alfama, it's not touristy at all. We saw very few tourists. People live here. We saw laundry hanging out to dry, heard radios and tv's from open windows, and sampled the cherry liquor sold by an elderly woman who set up shop underneath a shady tree.

We had three full days and spent one in Sintra. We are headed back next year for three more full days because there is so much more we want to see. It’s definitely doable but you might want to go back! Here’s a time saver skip the #28 tram, it was the most over hyped tourist trap ever. The food was amazing, we didn’t have a bad meal and just went to little places we found on Yelp around our AirBnB. The food market was fun, loud in the center area, we found a quiet seafood spot on the outer part and went late in the afternoon, visited with the staff while they were changing out the ice in the displays, it was great! Have fun!!!

My tip for Sintra is to take the train from Lisbon Rossio, pick up the bus at Sintra station & head straight for Pena Palace to arrive as it opens.

Then it’s a rewarding steep downhill hike via the Moorish Castle into town, where you can tour the National Palace then walk or bus back to the train station.
