Late april in Algarve?

My sister and I have 7 full days in Portugal in late April. We're flying in/out of Lisbon and plan to spend 4 days there. We're debating whether we spend the remaining days in Porto or go south to the towns of Algarve. Both seem interesting and beautiful in their own way but I'm wondering if Algarve will be too cold and quiet during that time of year. I'd appreciate any thoughts and suggestions you have. Thanks.

With only a week, there are more interesting places to visit than the Algarve. I have been on the Algarve in mid April and we had a mix of some warm days around 16-19 degrees and several colder, wetter and very windy days. Porto and the areas between here and Lisbon would be my choice.

I agree with Jennifer. Porto would be my choice hands down! If you need a beach fix, you can find beaches close to Lisbon and Porto. But, April weather is iffy, so taking a chance on the Algarve doesn’t seem like a good expenditure of your time.
Be aware - if you are coming around Easter, accommodations need to be booked ASAP. Lots of Spanish people travel to Portugal for their Easter school break, so it’s much busier than usual.
