Last week of Nov - first week Dec in Portugal

The only time my daughter can travel this year is over Thanksgiving. Would Portugal be too cold and rainy that time of year? What if we flew into Lisbon and spent a week driving from Lisbon to Faro and another week in Seville, Spain? Is that doable? We have never been to Portugal or Spain.

Ann that is very doable. The weather will be in the mid 60's degree range for both areas around that time. The climate is mild in Portugal but in December, there is some rain. When you explore the Algarve in Portugal, visit other towns which are nearby Faro like Albufeira, Lagos and Vilamoura. While in Seville Spain for a week, Train to and tour the cities of Cordoba , Malaga, and Granada. Southern Spain is much milder in weather around November and December.

RJean, thank you that was very helpful! Do you have any suggestions on which cities we should stay overnight at?

Hi Ann,

You can stay in the city of Albufeira in Portugal, it's a large city in the Algarve and use it as a base to explore the smaller towns. In Spain, you can have the option of basing yourself in Jerez De La Frontera or Cordoba to explore Seville. The towns are very close by. Hotel fees will be a little cheaper in those towns then Seville. Message me if you need assistance on sights to see, accommodation, and places to dine. I will give you a list.

The weather can be quite wet and windy at that time of year. The Algarve is all about the beaches and golf and it isn’t the right time of year for either.

Albufeira is my least favourite place on the Algarve - popular with stag and hen parties out of season because it’s cheap (and characterless). Tavira and Lagos have more character.

Lisbon is great for 5 days at least plus day trips to Sintra and Cascais. Evora is worth an overnight stay.

If you take a hire car into Spain, you will pay a hefty one way drop fee. You may want to fly to Spain or have a car in Portugal and take a bus to Seville then hire another car once you want to move on.
