Hi. I'm contemplating a solo trip to the Algarve for late September. I understand Benagil caves are currently closed. I love the look of the cliffs in that area. Which is preferable for lodging, Lagos or Salema? I would like to pay $200 at the max per night. I am considering http://www.thewaytours.pt for tours. I like the idea of stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, scuba, rapelling, coasteering, white water rafting, tubing and spotting wildlife. I'm one of those weird people who would enjoy dance classes, pilates, yoga, or water aerobics, possibly in the hotel, even if it's in Portuguese. I'm not keen on a place where I would be kept up all night by parties. Some of that is OK, but I don't need a Costa del Sol scene. Which town would be better for me? Thanks!
Definitely Lagos! Salema is very small with limited lodging, restaurants, etc. You would find none of the things you mention in Salema. You might want to do a search on this forum to see the many posts questioning why RS still thinks so highly of Salema. Lagos, is a midsized town with amazing rock formations very close to town and lots of hotels, vacation rentals, restaurants, etc. I can’t speak to the partying as I’ve not been in the summer. But, I know they are attempting to curtail some of it.
