We are staying two nights in Porto, the question is should we spend the first day stopping in towns between Lisbon and Porto, such as either Obidos or Coimbra, one of both, or should we head directly to Porto? Traveling with a group of 5. In Obidos, I would tour on our own. In Coimbra, I am wondering about a Go Walks tour because of time. Input welcome!
From my point of view, I'd definitely head directly to Porto. Obidos is essentially one main street; pleasant enough but not worth time time at the expense of Porto. It will also be a sea of humanity in July. Yuck. Ditto for Coimbra, although people like it better, largely due, I think, because of the University. It is a much bigger city, so it takes at least one day. Porto has enough to keep you busy for a week or more, so I'd focus on that.
It isn’t possible to stop on the train in Obidos. The main train line does go through Coimbra, though. If you do stop there, the Go Walks company does very good tours.
And, yes, all will be crowded in July but Obidos likely the worst.
Thank you both for this help. Invaluable! We have two days in Porto. What is on your do-most list? Include great restaurant suggestions, please!
