Itinerary suggestion for 8 nights in Portugal next week

Hello, All!
I am flying into and out of Lisbon, March 6-14 and would like suggestions of an itinerary. Should I head down to the Algarve first or make my way up to Porto via Nazaré and the university town? I appreciate your thoughts! I will be on the alert for pickpockets in the cities and mass transit!

With only 8 nights, I'd split the time between Lisbon and Porto. There is so much to see and do in those cities!

Seems like you would have already done your planning. Personally I’d skip the Algarve and Nazaré with your limited time. If you want to visit Lisbon, Coimbra, and Porto, that’s all you realistically have time for.

Good advuce above. With just 8 days split your time between Lisbon and Porto. Take the train.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I am considering the Algarve region as part of an alternate itinerary. Within that, at this time of year Rick states that Salema would be relatively dead whereas Tavira would be more livelier due to its year round character. Staying in Salema would be less time-consuming, however. Also, I am more of an outdoor/naturalist person rather than an avid museum worshipper. Thoughts? And, thank you for the consideration.

Second the suggestions from the others about sitting nights between Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra

If you are willing to rent and drive yourself then do one way rental between Lisbon and Porto making select stops among Obidos, Nazare, Alcaboce, Bathalha, Fatima, Averio.

Alternatively for maximum efficiency, hire services like that of Fernando Batista of PortugeseCauffeur.com.

That way, you don't have to drive or worry about parking.

(You don't need car rental in Porto or Lisbon. Bolt is cheap and easily available)
