Itinerary Help north of Lisbon

My husband and I are going to Portugal in Sept/Oct. We want to stay in one location for 2 nights and day trip to Obidos, Alcobaca, Batalha, and Tomar. We will have a car during this leg of the trip. Can you recommend a central, scenic location for this or should we stay in Tomar?

Here is the itinerary thus far:
7 nights Lisbon [several day trips during this week]
2 nights Evora
2 nights ? see above
2 nights Coimbra
3 nights Porto
7 night Douro River cruise
5 nights Madrid
Any suggestions are appreciated :-).

I would encourage you to rethink your two night stays. This gives you really only one day in each of these places. You cannot see the four places you mention in your unknown destination in one day with any sensible schedule.
I would add another night to Evora, which will give you time for the Megalith tour outside of town.
I would also add more time to Coimbra and do day trips to either Alcobaça and Batalha. You can easily visit Obidos on your way to Coimbra. You can also day trip from Coimbra to Tomar.

Thank you Kathryn! That makes sense and I will reconfigure my itinerary with extra days in Evora and Coimbra! I prefer fewer stops and longer stays in one location!
