Itinerary help: 10 days in Azores, Lagos & Lisbon

Hi,

My fiancé and I are planning a 10 day honeymoon trip to Portugal in late June and have a rough outline of itinerary. We'd love help from anyone who's been!

4 days in Sao Miguel
Travel day from Sao Miguel to Lagos (arrive mid-afternoon by train)
2 full days in Lagos
Train ride to Lisbon (arrive early afternoon)
2 full days in Lisbon (thinking we'll do a day trip to Sintra)

Is that about the right amount of time in each? We'd like to do the Seven Hanging Valleys hike outside Lagos and visit the Benagil cave- what would be the best mode of transit there? Any "must-see" places? We were planning on renting a car in Sao Miguel but were going to try to make do without the rest of the trip.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Sorry, but your mainland Portugal element is rushed.

I don’t think there are any direct flights from Sao Miguel to Faro, so you would have to travel via Lisbon, most likely arriving in Lagos late afternoon.

Did you mean Lagoa or Lagos? Lagos isn’t close to the walk you intend to take, which is south of Lagoa, near Benagil in the central Algarve. Personally, I prefer Lagos and the more rugged western Algarve. Late June could be very hot for this walk. The railway line runs way north of Lagoa.

You are significantly short changing Lisbon with only one full day there plus a day in Sintra. Your trip involves significant amounts of travel. Personally, I would drop the Algarve and stick to Lisbon and its surrounds.
