Itinerary help, 10 day family trip

Surprising family with 10-day trip to Portugal in Sept. I do this every year which coincides with our wedding anniversary. We are husband, wife, and three adventurous boys in early 20s. Wife and I enjoy day hiking, exploring towns on foot, wineries, beach life, good food and the occasional museum, and boys like eating, more eating, beaches, museums, architecture, did I mention eating, and a lot of dancing/nightlife.

1) Looking for suggestions where to base ourselves, say like, Lisbon and somewhere in the Algarve, and maybe a night in Sintra?

2) Should we do 2 or 3 bases?

3) Neighborhoods in Lisbon to stay in?

4) Is it possible to do 1 base in the Algarve or are 2 recommended? Renting a car but unsure of drive times.

5) any suggestions for adventurous activities kids might enjoy?

I have been researching and thought I could wing it but find myself needing the recommendations from the Portugal traveling experts here. So much to see and do and just needing a shove in the right direction!

Thank you 🙏🏾

It sounds like your family would be good candidates for Faro in the Algarve. Lots of beaches, restaurants, and nightlife. Your sons could try surfing, kayaking, and other water activities. There are some historical parts of town, and a lot of older cities to explore. You might all enjoy touring Sagres, where Prince Henry’s navigation school was., Early September, will be warm, and good beach weather.
The Algarve is about 4 or 5 hours drive from Lisbon. Lisbon is a terrible city to drive in, lots of narrow one way streets. Except for parking, most towns in the Algarve are easier.
