Planning a trip this summer with my family of 4 (including 2 boys, ages 9 &12) and I need a bit of help with our itinerary. We will be flying into Portugal on July 27th, and we will have until Aug 8th, from when we will be flying to Madeira. We will need to be in Lisbon to fly out on the 8th, so my plan was to start in the northern part of the country (Porto, and end in Lisbon). Currently struggling most with places to go between the big cities (Porto and Lisbon)
My current plan is:
3 nights Porto
2 nights: ? Coimbra, Bussaco Forest area, Duoro valley
1 night: Evora
2 Nights: Sintra
4 Nights: Lisbon
We will pick up a car in Porto to drive until we get to Lisbon where we will drop off the car, and get a train to Sintra.
Really want to make sure and hit Coimbra and Bussaco Forest, but other than that I'm open to ideas. We tend to gravitate towards more adventurous, outdoorsy activities, and less museums (kids). Love exploring parks, markets, beaches, strolling the streets.
The idea of the Duoro valley sounds fantastic but with kids, not sure it's realistic or fun for them.
Is there anyplace between Porto and Lisbon that you think is a "must see" with young kids? Or a town that was incredibly impressive and enjoyable?
All feedback appreciated.
