Hi !
We are fixed on our Portugal trip. We can still make some changes but what do you think of that plan (keep in my that we are 2 adults traveling with 2 kids of 5 and 9 years old)

  • July 24: Arrival in porto (from Barcelona, so not jet lag) . 3 nights in Porto (Daytrip to Guimaraes).

  • July 27: get a car, go to Douro valley (N 222 go to Pinhao, sleep in Quinta santo Antonio)

  • July 28: Coimbra, 2 nights, with daytrip to Conimbraga

  • July 30. Coimbra to Sao Martinho do Porto with a stop in Tomar. 2 nights in Sao Martinho. We want to enjoy the beach in the late aftrenoon of our arrival, Do a daytrip to Batalha next morning, and beach again in the late afternoon.

I think you have an excellent, well paced plan. There will be so much to do as you fill in the days and nights for your your children to learn and appreciate the culture and history of Portugal. I would create an easy to accomplish scavenger hunt for all the places you will visit to add a little more fun for them. Good luck!

Agree it sounds like a good plan. We took a family trip to Portugal when our granddaughters were 8 and 10 and visited some of the same places. They enjoyed walking through the ruins at Conimbraga, were kind of impressed with the library at the University of Coimbra, and enjoyed walking along the walls in Obidos. If you have time in Sintra you might want to check out the Toy Museum. Our son and D-i-L enjoyed it as much as the girls did, and we did, too! They also enjoyed the Tower of Belem and Castelo de Sao Jorge in Lisbon. We did not visit Tomar on this trip but your children should also enjoy wandering through the Convento de Cristo. It sounds like you have a good mix of sights and activities for the whole family!

Thanks for those answers and all the inputs !

It's not always obvious to make a planing for the whole family, and our experience tell us that sometimes the fun kids get is not where we tought it would be ! One thing for sur is that playgrounds, small or big, new or old are always a hit with them. !

Scavenger hunt might be a good idea....But I dont know what they could ''hunt'' !
