We are planning our first Christmas in Europe. Tentative plan is London Dec 8th to 22nd and then somewhere warm for a week. Is heading to Portugal a good idea for Christmas week or would you recommend another option? Thank you,

Portugal is warmer than the U.K., but it’s not tropical, but none of mainland Europe is at that time of year. Lisbon would be a good base for a week and will be milder than many parts. The food and wine are good.
Flight prices across Europe rocket during school holidays, so grab the flights as soon as they are available eg EasyJet only have bookings available until October at present.
Vacationers in the U.K. often own and rent condos in the Algarve region of Portugal--in the far south. They catch budget airlines from London into Faro.
