How to travel in San Miguel, Azores

I have been doing quite a bit of research on traveling to San Miguel in the Azores

I have also done a little research on rental cars in the Azores and they are very very expensive

Does anyone have any travel tips on how to move from one location to the other on this island by bus

Can one get from place to place by using a bus or is there some other means of transportation like a taxi or travel service that I can utilize

I am not in a rush for information as I am traveling in the latter part of next year

10 days in the Azores and the remainder in Porto.

I have been visiting the Azores for almost 25 years, never using buses while there. Renting a small car is always affordable when done in advance. I sometimes rent a 9-passenger van when we travel with lots of family, still getting good prices. I explain how to do it in my Azores guide, and also how to use the taxis efficiently. The bus schedules in Sao Miguel are very confusing, and do not get you everywhere you need to visit. Plus, you will be wasting valuable time using a bus. They do not run as often as you would think.
