How to spend 3 extra nights after Lisbon

My husband, kids (8 and 6) and I are headed to Portugal Oct 3-11. We’ll arrive in Lisbon the morning of Tuesday the 3rd and stay until Saturday the 7th. We need to be back in Lisbon the night of Tuesday the 10th for an early flight the next day.
Where should we go that weekend? Should we stick to the Lisbon area and do a couple nights in Evora and a night in Sintra before heading back to the Lisbon airport area? My kids would like to go to the beach if the weather is good, so should we do a day trip to Cascais or head to a beach town for a few days? I’ve also considered spending the weekend in Porto, but I think after sight seeing in Lisbon my kids might be “citied-out” and would love a hotel with a pool and a more laid-back portion of the trip, maybe with some day trips.

Any and all thoughts appreciated!

I would suggest Evora and Sintra. However your kids desire for a day at a beach( I would limit it to one day) means you need to take a day trip to Caiscais. The other two days go to Sintra and/or Evora.

Your plan looks pretty good to me. Evora and Sintra are good and easy from Lisbon. Cascais would be good for your children. In addition to the beaches, there is a lovely park - Marechal Carmona - that has ducks and chickens roaming freely and is popular with children. There is also a small park downtown with an old carousel.
I’m not certain if pools will still be open in October even though the weather is usually still very good. If you want a night in Cascais with a pool, the Baia has an indoor pool with a stunning location right on the bay downtown. I’m thinking it might stay open that late in the season.

I would just say that there is often a temptation to try to see to much while limited to a short stay. While Evora and Sintra are unquestionably worth a visit I think that is a lot of time spent packing up and traveling. I would second the recommendation of Cascais and that is where I would recommend spending those extra days. Your children will thank you. Rates at the Baia will be reasonable in October and the location will be perfect for you.

I also suggest you go to Cacais. You can catch a bus from there to Sintra (about 45min) for a day trip if you wanted to, or just spend the time on the beach.
