How to get from Portugal to Fez quickly

Does anyone have any ideas on how best to travel from Portugal to Fez - quickly?

There will be three adults traveling and we have an ok budget but not first class privileges.

Is TAP Portugal, Royal Air Maroc and or Ryanair good reliable airlines? I am trying to book a flight for mid December and it looks like I don't have a lot of options. Also, the airline websites seem a bit flaky; especially TAP.

I've looked at maybe flying into Casablanca (CMN) and then taking the train but that makes for a very long day.

Appreciate any thoughts you all have.

I have flown with both TAP and Ryannair and both were fine. Just make sure you understand how Ryanair luggage pricing works.

You don’t say where in Portugal you are leaving from. Here is what I know; I hope it can help.

Fes is a pretty small airport. It’s brand new and lovely but you still walk out on the tarmac to board planes. It’s also located quite a ways out of town. Remember Fes is really hilly itself so the airport is built probably 45 minutes drive from the city where it’s flatter. Taxis are cheap but it takes time. There are also no direct connections to Portugal from Fes which means a layover probably in Spain or Marrakech.

If you can fly direct to Casablanca or Rabat you will have many more direct flight connections. From Casablanca to Fes it’s 3 hours and 30 - 45 minutes on the train which runs ever hour. The train stations are super clean and nice. Fes train station is right outside the Medina. Same for Casablanca (which has two. You’ll probably want Voyageurs). That line isn’t the high speed TGV line but you’ll see the countryside and it’s a comfortable ride. First class won’t cost more than twenty dollars. I’d take three hours on a train over three hours in an airport on layover. Also it’s like the Crosby Stills Nash And Young song “Marrakech Express”…
