Hi everyone. We will arrive in Lisbon on Oct. 2, 2017 (soon!) and will spend 5 days there. On Saturday the 7th we will be picking up our rental ride. We are headed ultimately to Sao Martinho do Porto for 4 nights. (We will then head north of Lamego for 5 nights before driving down the Douro to Porto for 5 nights before flying home.) My Question: I would love to see some of the coast on the way from Lisbon Aeroport to Sao Martinho. Who would like to weigh in on a route that would show us some of the coast?
At one point I thought we could drive west, skirting south of Sintra to make our way out to Cabo da Roca, view the western-most point on mainland Europe (I believe), then continue on our merry way driving north to Sao Martinho. I was quickly informed that the drive out to Cabo da Roca is a ‘real’ drive and perhaps not the one we might want to try on our way to Sao Martinho that same day.
We had dreams of then going to Azenhas do Mar because it looks beautiful. Then we thought we’d head to Ericeira (why not? We like a good drive). Then it seemed good to head to Sao Pedro da Cadeira. Then White Sand Beach. I’d been gently warned off from taking the time to visit Peniche so then Obidos seemed a good bet. I’ve heard that the drive from Fox do Arelho to Salir is beautiful and if we do that we are almost to Sao Martinho. Ta Da.
We love to drive. It will be our first day driving in Portugal. We did manage to survive driving in Ireland and so maybe we can do some part of this drive on our first day out on the road here.
Does anyone have a suggestion about all of this. We are open to any and all suggestions. We really have no idea of what to expect on this leg of our journey. We are excited about it.
