How to buy train tickets

Need to understand how to purchase train tickets. Looking to fly into Lisbon and then take train to Porto and return to Lisbon a few days later.

  1. How do you purchase tickets in advance?
  2. If our flight is late can we use ticket on a later train
  3. Are there senior prices for people over 65?

Thanks

  1. You can use the CP app or purchase in person at the station.
  2. I am not sure about this.
  3. Yes

We are in Portugal now and have been traveling by train including Lisbon to Porto. We found it easy to purchase at the station which was never very busy but understand your desire to have your seats and tickets secured in advance.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the train station or online.
If purchasing online, only use the official site.
https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/buy-tickets

Tickets can be purchased a maximum of 60 days before departure.
Early purchase discount is often available sometimes it's the same or better than seniors discount.
Seniors discount is available, proof of age required.

Usually tickets can be changed for another train ( difference in price has to be paid) up to 15 minutes before departure, otherwise there's no recourse, you'll have to buy a new ticket.

Best to give yourself extra time between flight and train.
