We would like to book this cruise ship excursion when we dock in Lisbon. It goes to Cascais and Sintra. It is marked strenuous. Is there a lot if climbing stairs, hills? Also if so, is there a shuttle you can pay a small fee and take a ride if their is a lot if climbing? Any advise from those who have been there would be helpful.
No climbing at Cascais as I recall - it's a seaside resort town.
In Sintra, there things of interest - Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle ruins - way up the hill from the town. Most people don't walk up there - they take a bus (I did), tuk tuk, taxi, whatever. If you are taking an excursion, they'll probably drive you up there.
There is a little walking from the entrances of the Pena Palace or the Moorish Castle to the actual site. Some of it might be on a little incline, but it doesn't seem especially strenuous. Just take your time. You might climb up to the ruins at the Moorish Castle, but you don't really have to.
When we visited Sintra my daughter had sprained her ankle and was in a wheelchair. I was able to push her from the ticket booth on with not too much effort. Strenuous? Maybe if you are totally out of shape.
Thanks so much for the good advice!!!
