How much time in Tavira

Hi all,
I've been reading the topics in the forum about Tavira and the Algarve in general. I had planned to stay in Lagos but the charm of Tavira made me question that.. We (me, husband, and 7 yr old son) have approximately 1 week in the region and I was hoping to stay in one spot and do day trips with a rental car. I'm not sure that is the best thing to do, alternatively we would spend 2 nights in Tavira and 2 nights in Lagos and have the other days flexible.

How many days would be enough in Tavira? I'd like to see the island beaches, the town, and a day trip to Faro or other notable towns close by.

I would pick Lagos or Tavira for a week. They are 2 hours apart. Alvor near Lagos is family friendly and may suit your needs better than Lagos.

Lagos - drive up the west coast north of Vila do Bispo for stunning, long sandy beaches and amazing cliff formations; head to Monchique in the hills; visit Sagres and the Cape (it’s cool and windy there); or take a boat trip.

Tavira - visit the barrier island beach at Barril by taking the small train; take the small water taxi across to the beach from Tavira or Cabanas; take a day trip into Spain; visit Alcoutim on the Guadiana River bordering Spain; visit the Rio Formosa Nature Park to see the flamingos; visit the charming village of Cacela Velha or visit the castle at Castro Marim. Many of the resorts have wooden boardwalks.

Faro isn’t worth visiting (or at most spend 2 hours in the old town).
