I will be in Portugal for 2 weeks with the majority of the vacation in the Algarve region. How long would you recommend I spend checking out Lisbon? I heard 3 days is quite enough? And what location in the city is the best to stay in a hotel, not hostel?

3-4 days is gd for lisbon. Stay central in the old quarter. That will put u central to alot.
And a lot that u can walk to . Experience fado performance if u can spare a late nite out.
Itis a great tourist city.

It depends on how much you want to see and the "quality" of the days (as in, do you count the first day that you fly in at 9 am as one of your days.) As stated, Sintra is an excellent day trip with a longer stay. However, you will see the main sights on 2-3 days.

3 nights was good for me. If you like upscale hotels, the Baixa is your hood. If you don't mind pensions, the Bairro Alto is the place to be. Even if you stay in the Baixa, try very hard to experience at least one night in the Bairro Alto, and visit the lookout point on Rua Dom Pedro V.

Hi Travel Lad, we stayed 5 nights and felt like we covered quite a bit, with day trips to Belem & Sintra in those 5 days- I don't think I would have wanted to spend less time there. We stayed in an apartment off the Place du Rossio, which was close to much (including transportation), but quiet at night. Lisbon is compact, but hilly; no matter where you stay you're going up or down, but if you're OK with walking you can see a tremendous amount.

My wife and I will be spending 10 days in Portugal in early April. As we plan/hope to visit Portugal in a regular basis, we are prepared to spend the whole time in the Lisbon area. That way, we can become Lisbon "natives" and be better prepared to jump off from there on following trips. Side trips to Sintra and any other spot you all recommend will be included. We will utilize Airbnb for getting our home base. Any apartment recommendations will be appreciated
