We are getting ready for our first Rick Steves tour, the 12 day Heart of Portugal this May. I wonder if the hotels we will be staying in on the tour supply shampoo and conditioner in their bathrooms? Or should we plan to pack our own?
It’s a great tour having recently enjoyed it. Tuck in your favorite shampoo and conditioner, rather than relying on possible availability and suitability in the variety of hotels booked.
Some hotels supply a "shampoo&conditioner" combo product. Some will have separate shampoo and separate conditioner.
All will have some sort of shampoo. ( At least all the RS hotels I have been in did)
If a specific conditioner is important to you, bringing your own or buying a bottle when you get there will be your options.
Some companies sell these in bar form so that you don't have to use space in your 3-1-1 bag for these.
Additionally, some hotels have gone to a combination shampoo/body wash rather than separate shampoo/conditioner and hand soap containers. Almost all use the pump bottles. Few have the individual sized bottles to reduce the amount of plastic.
As Forrest Gump says, "you never know what you're gonna get." I always take a small amount, enough for a couple of uses, just in case, in little nalgene bottles from Container Store. Takes up very little space. I use it only if what's in the accommodation is lacking.
