We are visiting Portugal next March and would like to stay in a hotel near the LIsbon airport the night before our return flight to the U.S. Does anyone have a hotel they could recommend near the airport, either with a hotel shuttle or close to public transport (bus or metro)? Many thanks in advance!
How early is your flight? In most cases, with the airport being so close to central Lisbon, it makes little sense to stay at the airport. In particular, I would not change hotels in Lisbon for that final night.
But if you're just coming to Lisbon for 1 night with, say, a 6 AM flight, then the Melia Aeroporto is hard to beat. You can walk to the terminal.
We had a 5:20 am flight out of Lisbon recently. Stayed in downtown Lisbon and took a taxi arranged by our hotel to the airport. It was a quick trip and only 13 euro even though there was a surcharge for the early ride. It allowed us to fully enjoy Lisbon on the last night of our trip.
klgilbert55, unless you need to get to the airport before about 6:30 a.m., take the metro. It's cheap, easy, and comfortable from the center.
I've stayed at Star Inn Lisbon, walking distance from the airport. I've also stayed in town and took Uber for an early morning flight that was before the metro was running. Either would work depending on the flight time and your comfort level.
I stayed at Be Poet Baixa Hotel on Rue Augusta. Really liked it. Very nice staff. Good prices. Very good breakfast.
I was able to take public transportation to the airport. but the hotel can arrange a ride service if you desire.
I took the green line and transferred to the red line but there were some spots where there was only stairs and no escalator or lift.. I would not recommend for anyone with lots of luggage or having mobility issues
I am going to be writing a review of the Lisbon Airport.
Thanks to everyone for your kind and helpful advice! We are planning to find accommodations near the red line Metro for easy travel to the airport the morning of our departure. Much appreciated!
Karen,
We are doing the same thing in late February. If you identify good red-line hotels for that last night I'd love to know them. I'm all about the easy-button!
Thanks.
In case you are not aware, the metro does not start running until 6:30 am, so hopefully you do not need to be at the airport for an early morning flight. If so, there's taxis, uber and bolt.
And if the flight is not early, you don't need to limit yourself to the "red" line, but anywhere by a metro station will work. It's easy to switch lines, staying underground the entire time.
Thank you Gail - our flight departs at 10 am so we should be fine with the metro opening at 0630.
Hello Pyegirl - we found an Air BnB located on Avenida Duque de Ávila, steps away from the Saldanha red line metro station.
