We are looking for a home base town to stay in for 4 or 5 days in the Algarve region. My daughter stayed in Lagos and loved it, but there are other towns there that might have more to offer. I'm open to all suggestions.
Thanks you!
Lagos has more to offer than most of the Algarve - what exactly are you seeking?
Albufeira is the largest place, but Lagos is less brash. Tavira at the eastern end has plenty of character, but it is smaller than Lagos. The beaches are out on the barrier island, reached by a short boat ride.
IMO Lagos is the best base for most people, but there are more interesting regions of Portugal, away from the hoardes of tourists.
When are you travelling?
I agree with the Lagos recommendation. It's central enough to visit Sagres and the west coast and has a good number of good hotels, restaurants, etc.
We found a great Airbnb full apartment near Carvoeiro overlooking the beach.
Doug--we're in the same boat. Looking for a 4-5 night home base [in May] and also assessing the Algarve. Lagos seems to be the feedback I'm getting from other sources.
Jennifer--I'm interested in your thoughts on other interesting regions! Rising on my list is the Silver Coast.
