Hiking or Walking Tours in Portugal

I'm planning a 2 week trip to Portugal the first part of October and am interested in doing a 6 or 7 day walking/hiking tour. I'm a veteran walker/hiker so am interested in more than a walk around the block type of experience. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience taking one of these ? Am interested in hearing about potential itineraries and tour companies. Any reviews, suggestions, ideas will be welcome.

Thanks.

October would be a wonderful time to walk the Rota Vicentina, I did parts of the walk in March of this year.
Very easy to plan using the information on the site. Absolutely beautiful coastal walks.
I did not even consider using a tour. I stayed 2-3 nights in 3 places along the route, starting from the most southerly in my plan, Arrifana, then Odeciexe, then Vila Nova Milfontes.

Did not need to rent a car, the local taxis are wonderful. I would walk to a point 15-20 KM and call a taxi to take me back to my base. About 1 euro per KM, which made it cheaper than a car without the bother.
Lots of lovely accommodations very reasonable in cost.

One of the best known UK operators running walking holidays in Europe is inntravel.co.uk. They have lots of Portuguese walking holiday options in October.

I would expect a UK operator to offer ATOL protection (for if the company goes bust). Inntravel do, as do Macs Tours as previously mentioned, although I haven't heard of them. HF Holidays don't have this protection.
