Hiking in the Azores in July

My husband and I would like to plan a hiking trip to the Azores in July. We do not know what Island to choose and what hiking trails are best suited for day hikes. Any accommodation suggestions are also welcome.

Thank you

July will be spectacular, but you need to get your flights and accommodations booked ASAP as that is the high tourist season there. Flights to the Azores will only get more expensive the longer you wait. Availability of flights gets harder as well.

Sao Miguel has the most trails, and the other islands have only a few on each. The trails vary considerably on length and exertion. Some are along the coast, others circle extinct volcanic craters and lagoons, others include cow pastures and a tea plantation...you will notice they vary considerably.

If you want the 26 page PDF guide I wrote for the Azores, and a scavenger hunt PDF as well for Santa Maria, please PM your email address to me. The docs I will email to you have all you need to know to plan your trip.

Some questions I have are:
1. How long is your trip?
2. Would you consider more than one island?
3. What other interests do you have?
4. What part of the world are departing from to get to the Azores.
5. What hiking experience do you have?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for replying. My email address is rickilight@gmail.com.

We just booked our flights from Boston. We will be traveling to Prota Delgada. We only have four full days in the area. We really enjoy day hiking, windsurfing, swimming, and most natural pheonomeom. We also like to see the towns and historic features.

We have tentatively booked accommodation, but we are open to suggestions.

Do you recommend that we rent a car?
Our hiking ability is very average. Nothing too dangerous or rugged. We usually hike once or twice a week in the mountains in Phoenix, AZ or Sedona and the hikes may vary from 4 to 8 miles.
We would consider visiting other islands, but we want to maximize our time there and not spend too much time traveling.

We have three weeks in total and are planning to visit the mainland and Spain as well. We particularly want to go to Barcelona and the northern region of Spain.

Thank you
