Hiking around Tavira

We will be spending 7 days in Tavira early May (with car). Wondering about nearby drives to nice day hiking areas. Also, any chance there are hiking maps we could purchase or download?

A walk from Tavira centre round the salt pans is always interesting.

At low tide, you can walk from Cabanas to Cacela Velha and loop back inland by the golf course.

About an hour's drive north is a good 2 + hour circular walk starting from Rocha da Pena, a limestone escarpment with great views. There is also a longer signposted walk here. It's a very different Algarve from the coast.

There are other good walks around Cachopo and the area north of the N125 north of Cabanas.

We did some housesitting near Faro a few years ago and found some beautiful trails on the www.walkalgarve.com website. As long as you have a car to get to them you’ll be good to go. Enjoy every minute!
