My husband and I will be travelling to Portugal from June 22 to July 30- arriving on the 22nd and leaving on the 30th. We both love water and food! Having never been to Portugal before, what would be a good itinerary?
I'd pick up a Rick Steves guidebook and figure out what interests you. Obviously Lisbon is on the list - what else interests you? Figure out your interests, list them down, then you can figure out how to connect them together and how much time to spend in each. Your itinerary may be different from mine.
I agree, RS book is great as are his new PBS Portugal shows. You are there a very long time so enjoy your planning. Get a rough itinerary together and post it for input. Enjoy.
We just spent 11 nights - 6 in Lisbon and 5 in Porto. We did a day trip to Sintra (from Lisbon) and from Porto Coimbra (by train) and the Douro (by boat/bus).
It was nice to not feel rushed - and we still could have seen more in both places so while 5 weeks seems like a long time it’s easy to spend it quickly!
Add a week in the north, Evora, Obidos etc and then the south and presto you have 5 weeks.
Portugal has lots of nice smaller towns: Evora, Viseu, Guimaraes. I don't think you'll have any trouble filling that time.
