We are going to Portugal for 7 days in July and plan to go straight north because we've spent time in mid-Portugal to the south. So--we're thinking of Guimares, Porto, and Viana do Castelo. But we're concerned that's too many places for that length of time. What would you recommend--which of these places is most worth visiting, and for how long? Are there other places up north you would substitute for any of these? We love wandering streets, doing a bit of craft shopping, seeing a museum or two, and visiting historic sites. We're not planning of renting a car but will use public transportation instead. Thanks for your help!
We're thinking of going straight to Guimares after flying into Lisbon, so being there half of Wed, all of Thurs, and part of Fri, then going to Porto for the weekend. Not sure at this point--is the Douro boat trip worth it, or would it be better to spend Sat/Sun/part of Mon in Porto, then go to Lisbon or spend another day in Porto. Is the boat trip worth it? Thanks--Vicky
