Hi all!
If you have any thoughts, please share recommendations. We were supposed to stay in Douro Valley at a farm stay on Wednesday and Thursday nights. They just called us, and unfortunately, they had a fire! It was the part of our time in Portugal I was most excited for. They were able to book us for one night, but just on Thursday, at another farm stay. We will be leaving Évora on Wednesday morning, and we are trying to decide where to spend one more night. Thoughts on Coimbra, Nazare? Other locations? We have been to Lisbon and are now in the Algarve. Our Portugal visit ends with three days in Portro, so somewhere on the way from Évora to the Douro Valley. Any suggestions are truly welcome! Thank you so much in advance!

Sorry to hear this! If you want to minimize extra driving time, I'd stay in Coimbra. We stayed only one night there in 2022 (sandwiched between the Algarve and Douro Valley) and getting from Coimbra to the Douro Valley is not a long drive. If you're able to tour the university and walk the old town, that would give you more than enough to do for one full day and night. I'm also guessing since Coimbra is a decently sized city, you might have more luck with last-minute accommodations.

Thank you so much! We originally had Coimbra in our plans, but “traded” it for that extra night in Douro. I will check it out!

Take a look at Marvao -- our favorite stop in Portugal. It is a gorgeous, medieval walled town with incredible views and is a lovely place to spend a night.
