Has anyone left their luggage in the car while hiking Caminito del Rey?

Hi - has anyone left their luggage in the car while walking Caminto del Rey?

I emailed their office and they say it is usually fine - but just wanting to hear first hand experiences from people who have done this walk. We are going in early Spring.

Thanks!

I would think the usual precaution of leaving your luggage out of sight would apply - get rental with trunk, not hatchback.

I don't rent a car in Europe, but I've read this tip often: Have everything you're leaving in the car already in the trunk when you drive into the parking lot. Do not park, then open the trunk to put things in it.

I'd have critical things (passport, vaccination card, prescription medications, electronics, cash and cards) in something like a moneybelt (cards, cash, documents) or backpack I was wearing.

Another tip I've seen is to buy a heavy chain and padlock. Run the chain through the handles of all the bags and lock it--again, before you arrive at the parking lot.

Hi, if you are travelling in spring 2022, the official and guarded car park may well be open (along with the visitor centre) This adds an extra layer of security as opposed to parking at the side of the road which many people have been forced to do. (Of course, the above tips are also valid even for guarded carparks). You can see the latest update about the reopening this week of the Caminito del rey here: https://www.caminodelrey.es/caminito-del-rey-reopens-17-december-2021/

Thanks, Clive! I have been checking that website daily and emailing them but did not know there was possibly going to be a new parking lot.

Just wanted to send an update, we left our luggage (hidden in the trunk) in the parking area and it felt very safe. This is an isolated area only accessible through little windong roads so perhaps it is not a good place for thieves to make a quick escape.
