Hi!
This is Deborah from TN; wondering if any of our future tour buddies are on the forum?
We are arriving in Lisbon very early the day before the tour starts (6/25). We were thinking of a day trip to Sintra on 6/26, and potentially renting a car and tour guide/driver (rather than taking the train) so we can be sure to be back by the tour’s beginning at 5pm. Wondering if anyone wants to go with us; probably cheaper if we split?
See you in Lisbon!
I am currently on the RS Portugal tour. Does your tour begin on a Monday? I already discarded the section of my RS guidebook related to Lisbon, but I think Sintra palaces are closed on Mondays. Recommend you check this out.
Sintra is open on Monday. I think it is most of the Lisbon museums that are closed in Lisbon.
We are now thinking less of getting a driver, and more of just hopping on the train and taking the bus to Pena Palace.
Any suggestions on how long we should allot between getting on the train in Lisbon and entering the Pena Palace? I have seen that there is no wiggle room on your Pena entrance.
I am on the tour right now (evening of 6/2) and wouldn't hesitate to take the metro, from the airport and to get around town. Super easy.
For Sintra, we arrived 2 days early and took a day trip with Lisbon riders, 8 person can, great guide, for the day to the palace and Sintra, and the ocean front towns, lighthouse and Caicais.
So far, Lisbon has been great, a lot of walking and seeing a lot of sights.
This is Beth from Virginia, one of your future tour buddies! We have already arranged for a tour of Sintra (we'll be going on Sunday). Sorry we can't join you for this.
Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the tour!
BTW, have you heard anything about the Lisbon airport strikes? We will be flying in early on Saturday, 6/24, and I'm expecting a back-up and/or extra inconvenience. :(
I'm on that tour at the beginning of October. Like you, I'm arriving a day early, but too late for even a half-day trip to Sintra. I was thinking of a half-day tour that would get me back by 5pm. Most are 4-5 hours, and I'm guessing that there wouldn't be much time at the Pena Palace, but probably worth going anyway. Several are listed on the Viator site, with varying prices. Most have pick up at my hotel, which is certainly easier. Have you identified a tour guide for your trip?
