Grannies with Quartos still renting rooms in Nazare?

Hi there,

I will be in Nazare in January and wondering if the grannies Rick mentions are still meeting tourists at the bus station with rooms (quartos) to rent?

Has anyone experienced this and how were the rooms and prices? Would it be harder to find a room this way since it's the off season?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

We were there in September and there are still women on the corners with rooms to rent. Don't know about the bus station. Also not sure if they would still be outside in the off season. If you can't find any, check Hotel Adega Oceano, very reasonably priced and right on the beach with great views. Good luck!

Hi Carol, this is such a funny coincidence. I was feeling antsy about arriving without a room and decided not to take a chance on the grannies being there. I ended up booking the Adega Oceano after a search on Trip Advisor! It seems to be in a great location, right on the beach, comes with free breakfast and wifi and good reviews about its restaurant.

I hope you will love it as we do. We have stayed there many times over the years. Many years ago they were just a small, family run pension catering mostly to Portuguese and Europeans traveling on their own. They are still family run but have expanded their facilities and now have more rooms (most updated), banquet rooms, and many tour groups staying there. They continue to offer a great breakfast with views across the street to the sea. Likewise the restaurant continues to be great; we enjoy having the soup and sharing a main course as, being older, we just can't eat the way we used to do. In January it should be quiet and you can enjoy walks along the sea (depending on the weather) and in the small back streets. If you have time, visit Pastelaria Batel, about a 5 minute walk from Adega Oceano on Praca Sousa Oliveira, for some of the best pastries and sweets. Have a great time!
