What to see & do there? Where to dine? Not much info in RS book.... Can anyone give some suggestions?

Faro isn't a place that most people linger - they just use the airport there then head off to the various beach resorts. There is the small charming old town including the cathedral, but this is surrounded by lots of concrete high-rise, modern sprawl. There are a number of simple, small family run restaurants near the cathedral, offering grilled sardines etc. which are worth a visit.
I suggest that you look at Trip Advisor for suggestions as to what to do and where to eat. The beach just south of Faro airport is popular, reached via a bridge from the mainland.
