Getting to Lisbon Airport

I will be arriving by cruise ship but flying home from LIsbon.

I have booked a hotel on Rua da Prata in the Baixa neighborhood. (see update below)

What would be the best way to get to the airport?

UPDATE: Correction. My hotel is Be Poet Baixa on Rua Augusta 220. I am not familiar with Lisbon names as yet but I am learning. Got my hotels mixed up.

You could certainly take a taxi, or you could take the metro (green line from Martim Moniz to Alameda, then red line to the airport).

Given the low price of taxis in Lisbon, I find it hard to make a case for taking the metro to the airport.

Perhaps I'm strange, but I actually prefer the metro, but for an early morning flight, Uber, taxi or Bolt works well.

I am also a big fan of the metro in Lisbon. I had originally planned to take an Uber from the Lisbon airport, but with the crowds at the time of my arrival, surge pricing was in effect. Frustrated travelers said they had been waiting 20 minutes and more for their Uber drivers. So I opted for the metro to Restauradores Square: easy, fast and no surge pricing. Depending on which end of Rua da Prata you are staying, Rossio station may be very close.

At what time are you leaving for the airport?

I took a taxi from Barrio Alto and it was about 15 euros.
It was very convenient and I would recommended.

I really like the Lisbon metro too - it’s quite beautiful, in fact. On the other hand, if you have a lot of luggage, a taxi would certainly be easier.

The Metro worked fine for me (to get FROM the airport into town, anyway). I like public transportation.

Thank you all for your responses.

I travel light with one spinner and one carry on. I usually carry on both.

I prefer public transportation if it is possible but it is good to know that taxis are so reasonable and available.

However I have read that many of the older taxi drivers might not speak any English. And I read a caution that be certain the meter is on and that you get a receipt. Cautions always make me nervous. When do you ask for a receipt?

I have read that Lisbon has beautiful metro station. but I have also read that luggage can not be taken on the buses.

My cruise leaves from Southampton and ends in Lisbon next October so I have plenty of time to get acquainted with Lisbon. I am spending 5 nights in London before sailing and have spent a great deal of time getting acquainted with London and I have. Now it is time to get to know Lisbon.

I have just discovered that I got my hotels mixed up since I am not yet familiar with Lisbon names.

I am staying at Be Poet Baixa which is at 220 Rue Augusta

It gets very high ratings and is on the main street

Uber (or Bolt) is your best bet,

Cheap, no haggling and you know the cost before you get into the car.
What time is your flight?

If you do decide to go with the metro, you could start at the Rossio or Baixa-Chiado stop.

Once you are in Lisbon, you will see how close the 2 metro stations are to your hotel (about 220m, maybe a 5 min walk) and you can drop by ahead of time to walk the route and find the ticket machines so that you'll know what you're doing on departure day. You may even have already taken the metro while you're in Lisbon.

Rossio and Baixa-Chiado are on the same (green) metro line, and you'll change once to the (red) line to go to the airport.

bostonphil7, when the front desk called us a taxi he explained that we were going to the airport. No explanation from our part.

Basically, the Lisbon airport is very close and it's very easy to get from your lodging to the airport. Many inexpensive options.

I like that all metro maps seem to look similar. I am talking about different colored lines and that they are painted on the walls of the stations and you can easily see how they connect and interact. I like that you can also look at these metro maps on line and on paper. It is so helpful and simplifies transportation.

I have not yet booked my flights. Until today, it was too early to book. I think that I can book it now but I am going to wait another couple of months. My trip is not until next October.

I have free cancellation with my hotels and can change the dates if I need to but with plane flights, it is something else. Unless very necessary, I do not want to even try to change the dates of a flight. However, I always purchase insurance.

I am also continuing to try to earn rewards towards my flights.

I am not going to be able to fly non stop from Lisbon to Austin. I am going to have to change planes at least one time.

Appreciate all the input. It has been very helpful.
