Hi All,
Going on a 2 week trip arriving in Lisbon and departing from Barcelona. I am stumped on how to get from Lisbon to Lagos? Train, bus or renting a car. We mainly want to do trains and buses to travel. Also, my husband wants to visit the Rock of Gibraltar and Morocco. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are traveling in October 2018. Thank-you!!
It is very easy (and inexpensive) to take the train from Lisbon to Lagos. Book your tickets on cp.pt up to a month ahead and get 40% off. Last time I went it was about €24 round trip. You do have to change trains at Tunes, but you get off one train, stay on the same platform and wait for the next one to come. Lots of other people will be doing the same thing so it’s very easy.
Relying on public transport once to you get to Lagos is another thing. Renting a car is much preferable in the Algarve. And, to make things more complicated, you cannot rent a car in Portugal and return it in Spain without huge surcharges.
Most people take the bus from the Algarve into Spain.
Lastly, I am having difficulty imagining covering all the ground you mention in just two weeks..
Kathryn,
Thank-you so much for your helpful advice. In the back of my mind, I was thinking that we were taking on too much for only a 2 week period. Your comment validated my concerns. Speaking with my husband, he thought that 2 weeks in Portugal would be a leisure trip, not rushed and would be able to stay at a destination for more than 1 night. The last thing that I want to do is to be rushed and not being able to soak in the Portuguese culture. Again, thank-you so much for your input!!!! Cheryl
